Fedora Core 6 update

Fedora Core 6, another update

Around a year ago, I read that Uche had gone from FC4 to FC5, had some fun and games with the update, but that he was happy with the change. IIRC, he's moved over to Ubuntu, as seemingly many others have too. I stayed with Fedora.... cowardly maybe, but I'm unsure about losing data when I shift OS; nasty memories of moving out of Redmond world. So when I knew the FC6 was available, I waited for a while, see if any adverse reports came up. None did, so this weekend I'm changing over to FC6. I'll let you know. My biggest bugbear is that whilst Ubuntu is a single CD, FC5 and 6 are a massive 5 CD's worth. Then, after that hassle, it's another half gig of download just to get all the updates! I'm still using yum. The Fedora crowd are boasting about another updater, puplet I think is the name. Yet another graphical front end on top of a viable command line program. I often am reminded of the Redmond accusation, Microsoft know best what you want. yum works. Hiding the detail behind dumb interfaces doesn't hack it for me.
