At home

Long time since my last entry. I went to the US for a couple of weeks, my son married a girl from Minneapolis. The UK has almost a standing joke about weddings. Almost battle lines, with the bride and grooms families daggers drawn and erupting into an open fight at the reception once the beer starts flowing. I guess some weddings are like that. This one was right from the start. I'd no previous experience of a US wedding so I'd no expectations. Knowing the bride a little, I'd high expectations of her family and I wasn't wrong. Really nice people. This extended out to friends and quite distant relations.

Typical America? I don't know, but we first met her mother at breakfast the day after we arrived! Very nice lady with secret skills in organisation. From the service through to the reception. Not a single thing went wrong (at least visibly). We even managed to have warm sunshine! Amazing. A brunch the following day wrapped things up nicely and the bride and groom shot off to the West coast for a week on the Monday. We joined the brides mum to try out the Segway tour of Minneapolis. We were there on the 30th April, but the photo's are missing. Great experience. At 5K dollars, 4.5K UK pounds (ya boo hiss) they are a bit of an investment, but boy are they fun!

The rest of our second week went by all too quickly. We shifted from the Embassy Suites to the Hyatt (we'd orginally planned to go drive about but decided MSP was a good base) and so stayed there. I took a liking to Minneapolis over the time we were there. A real recommendation, Hells Kitchen for breakfast? Just off the main drag, Hells Kitchen. Made a great start to the day.

Apart from the flights, a really good holiday.

Back in the UK, I spent three days in hospital for minor elective surgury. Out last week I'm now mostly recovered. The weather is atrocious (seems that our wind and weather from the North is being matched by a big swathe of good weather... almost too good, up through central Europe and into Russia. Swings and roundabouts?
