Open Office or Office Open?

Ecma announces a "formal standard for office productivity applications ". Then "the goal is to (1) Produce a standard which is fully compatible with the Office Open XML Formats,"

Mmm. So rather than compete with Open Office, we get the confusion of Office Open now. Back door attacks? This blog points out a couple of decisions that need to be made by standard setters, and Bob Suter from IBM points out that this is trying to wrap Redmonds XPS in an ISO standard.

Strikes me that Ecma needs to look to its own behaviour if they can walk through the process this easily. Ah well.
