Fedora or Ubuntu
I'm currently setting up to move from Fedora (6). I basically don't trust lvm, so I need to dump my RAIDed first two drives, which are also logical volumes. I've backed up all 'my' data onto other physical drives which are mounted as ext3, so I should be able to get at them once a new OS is installed. That's the theory. I have a list of 50 apps that I've installed, and which may come with me, yet TBD. I'm currently downloading Ubuntu 7. I have FC6 Live on CD too. Googling for comparisons really doesn't show much light between them. distrowatch shows the numbers if you're interested. Basically I can't make up my mind.
Just to brighten my day, I found the sort commands in emacs. Sadly disappointed with $bash sort, I'd resorted to mailing a file to myself, opening it in textpad (great windows app), sorting the data, then mailing it back to me. Question on the emacs list and I had 4 answers in ten minutes... could have been rtfm, but wasn't. Sort works nicely for me now. Only one other app has amazed me like emacs. AutoCad... when at version 2, which was a while back. One of my claims to fame perhaps? I ran Autocad off two 5 inch floppies? Work that one out!
Anyway, if you want to advise me on which to choose, I'm more than willing to listen.
