Atom Validity and nit picking

My main feed is now back at atom.xml. The feed was bad, was corrected and I then stumbled over using .htaccess. Is it really an Apache 'standard'? Seems quite remarkable really. Anyway, I can apparently override higher level directory directives by a local one, so I can have xxx.xml as application/xml in other places on the site, whilst having atom.xml as application/atom+xml in my blog. Seems right.
