YMMV
Your mileage may vary. A common phrase in the software world. I've reason to support its use in another environment. I've been researching and am in the process of buying a digital camera. There are lots of sites out there and many many reviews of the kit I'm looking at, a modest DSLR. What I'm beginning to realise is that the world of photography has so many more 'experts' than, say, the world of XML. Each provides definitive answers to unasked questions. Opinions that seem to take no rebuke etc. etc. Instead of 'I think ..... X' the common parlance is 'X' stated as fact, indisputable. YMMV seems not to have appeared in this internet community.
I'm looking at Canon (reasons rather prosaic) as a supplier; for which, it seems, some people find the QA questionnable. Fact? Fiction? I've no idea. I guess they get their Friday lenses in the same way as Ford and BMW get the Friday cars. Anyway, the lens I'm looking at is reviewed here with critcism about backfocus issues. I pondered and guessed what this might be for a day or so, then (somewhat irritated) I asked Google. Tim explains it clearly and offers a way of finding out if your (or my) lens suffers from this. From the forum it appears that Canon UK are quite happy to fix any problems with their lenses, which says something about the view on quality.
I'm no loger irritated; I do appreciate those who seek no more reward than a thanks.
I emailed a certain gentleman (author of one of those bits of software that makes you grin!) to request an addition to his page. He thanked me, did the addition, and commented that he's a 'feedback junky'. I understood perfectly. I guess I am too.
