Bittorrent really works well
I'm having disk space problems. I've four small disks on this machine, and my photographs are starting to cause problems. Ditto when I back up (again to a smallish disk). So I invested in a largish disk and was about to add it to the stack when I read that FC9 is due. A little overdue in fact. There was a beta available, but not the real thing. On the list of distros I saw the torrent feed and decided to give it a try. Transmission is the default FC8 client so I gave it a try. I normally get around the 100Kbps download here so that was my benchmark. I downloaded the 3.6Gb FC9 in 3 hours! I was impressed.
I've decided on a complete new install this time. I've uplifted FC from about FC2 and I'm getting just a little twitchy that the remnants from older installs will find some sods law corner and mess up. So, a complet new install on a clean disk, then the hassle of new installations of everything that has accumulated over the years. Should be fun. I was led to believe that this release had a 'small' install CD, such that the major work could be done via normal updates, but I can't find any info about it on the Fedora sites. I'm probably going to install the final release clean again, just wanted to look at the pre-release.
This indicates a non-install testable version, CD or memory stick OS for desktop testing.
