Linux desktop makes it for me

Linux desktop makes it for me

I was running out of disk space (or near enough to make me nervous), so I went out and bought a bigger disk. Rather than just add it as extra storage, I decided on using it for the next upgrade (to Fedora Core 9) which became available 13th this month. I was one of the large number of bit torrent users downloading the early release!

So yesterday afternoon I sat down to install it. Unplugged all my disks, put in the new one and did a clean install. The media check started at 15:40 and I sent my first email at 16:45. That I found quite impressive. I've spent a couple of hours this morning copying over files, installing apps and bits and pieces and I very nearly have my system back to normal within a day. The only real niggle is that bibble won't build.

error: Failed dependencies:
	libstdc++.so.5 is needed by bibblepro-4.10-2.i386

I have /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6.0.10.

I'm also lacking a couple of firefox plugins, not yet updated to FF 3.0b5 which is a bit annoying. Especially the delicious plugins

The rest though, sweet as a nut. No hardware problems, printer found fine, emacs up and running, a couple of apps that I installed on FC8 are already installed on FC9.

Rather than clutter up ~, I've left most of my setup on the old 'main' disk as backup.

I just have to set up my subversion files and backup scripts to run with the new disk setup and I think I'm done.

Drat. I guess this will happen. I run a bit of Amara python to generate the blog entries, and I didn't have it installed. Python EasyInstall to the rescue. Yum for Python! When will Java catch up.
