Let them eat cake
This from Julia Child,
volume 2. I had a hard time measuring ΒΌ oz of dried yeast
though. That just happens to match the accuracy of my scales!
Richard suggested a Tesco alternative, which shows at 1gm
accuracy. I still think the ratio of flour to yeast wasn't
enough. I'm now confused over the impact of salt on
yeast. Google tells me it aids in making the flour (gluten?) go
stretchy, others say too much can kill the yeast.
The other view, it failed... or I didn't allow it to, rise sufficiently, or at least to the bloat that Julia stated. That must have some impact. I did have the temperature right, but after 7 hours I'd had enough and put it in the oven. OK, but definately could do better. I doubt it will last two days though!
Far nicer snack than biscuits! It does take 1lb flour and 4 eggs though... Perhaps biscuits are cheaper.
